Stand Up Paddle Surfing or SUP is taking the world by storm and as was kitesurfing in its early days, is the world's quickest growing water sport. So what is it? In basic, standing up and paddling on a 10 - 12 ft long board that has a greater volume than traditional long boards.
The advantage of SUP board over a basic surf board / long board is the added width and volume that allows you to stand up and use a paddle giving more power and a quicker planing speed so much so that you can catch the smallest of waves! Paddles vary in size but basically act like a balancing pole, making it easier to turn and keep your balance.
Dave Kalama and Laird Hamilton are currently the best known SUP athletes, Mark Raaphorst the most progressive shaper and Jeff Henderson recognized for bridging SUP with wave sailing.
There are a growing number of SUP shapers of which we favour GONG and C4 Waterman as between them give fantastic options for the new Stand Up Paddle surfers looking for a good board that is well costed as well as those wanting a more refined shape for increased performance.
