With a short flight, a quick transfer and almost constant winds Tarifa, at the very southern tip of Spain, is an ideal destination for a kiting weekend, or short break. These factors in its favour also mean that it is a popular spot, so Tarifa is best for those with kitesurfing experience. Many people do go there to learn, but you need to bear in mind that the beach can get very busy, which is not ideal for complete beginners.
Tarifa is an attractive walled town with narrow streets, whitewashed houses, small squares with orange trees and rich architecture. It has good restaurants, plenty of bars and cafes and bags of character, combining Spanish and Moorish flavours. The town is surrounded by open countryside, affording huge views across the Strait of Gibraltar to the Rif Mountains of North Africa.
To the west of the town is a string of huge, sandy beaches that are swept by consistent winds 300 days of the year so we recommend to rent a car to get the full benefit of and to explore the surrounding area.
